Simon Cowell Bringing ‘Idol’ Type Show To YouTube

Simon Cowell is coming to YouTube. The British personality’s biting, honest critiques have played a huge role in making American Idol and The X Factor nto two of the largest democracies in the world. For his next trick, Cowell will turn his incisive, knowledgeable style into Internet gold. Cowell’s expertise lies in music, but The You Generation won’t just focus on musicians. Instead, there will be 26 different categories

, with a new call for submissions every two weeks. Cowell has been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, but he may want to enlist some insider help to help judge certain categories; some themes will include chefs, magicians, and photographers, and industry experts will hopefully provide sage analysis while Cowell handles the sarcastic remarks.

YouTube is the perfect stage for such a show. It is the land of opportunity, where anyone with a camera and a noteworthy talent can find millions of fans. The You Generation will funnel this process through one of TV’s most popular personalities. It launches on March 20 and should be a lot of fun, so check back on that date for the first set of auditions, quips, and breakthrough performances.
