There’s Plenty Of On-Demand Academy Awards Video At Oscar.Com

It’s hard to find video clips from last night’s Academy Awards on YouTube, seeing as how the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has a stringent policy of removing videos that violate its copyright. And although the Oscars YouTube channel is also devoid of awards footage, the official Oscars website is chock-full of clips from the show.

Footage from all the big awards are present, and the Academy has been kind enough to include the entire presentation for each winner, from the announcement of the nominees to the end of the acceptance speech. I am particularly thankful for this particular choice because it lets me relive Jack Nicholson’s boozy introduction of the First Lady for a second and third and fourth and fifth time.

There were initially some audio issues, but those have been cleared up, and those of us who missed parts of the ceremony need not fret. Even the awkward moment where the Life of Pi

effects guy gets cut off by the Jaws theme is present. Cringes all around!

I’m sure, in time, that all these clips will end up on YouTube, as many clips from Oscars past now reside on the mammoth video sharing site. If the Academy wants to continue its authoritarian policy of copyright claim, we can at least be thankful that their on demand library is mostly complete. Still, it’s not perfect. The clip of the Sound Editing tie is not there, thus making us travel to sketchy YouTube videos to see it. Can’t win ’em all.
