Jerry Seinfeld To Get Coffee In Cars With Comedians For Another Season

The first season of Jerry Seinfeld‘s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee was a motley collection of some of our most brilliant funnymen. While it had a tendency to ramble on at times, the show undeniably had its moments. Now, it looks like Seinfeld is ready to open up his garage one again and cruise over to the diner for another cup. A report by Bill Carter in the New York Times reveals that Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee (can I call it Triple-C?) will return for a fresh new batch of episodes.

The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and distributed ad-free via Sony’s Crackle platform, ran for ten episodes during 2012, each one featuring a different comedian. By the final episode, Comedians In Cars had drawn a sizable fanbase, and ultimate guest Michael Richards was able to use the series as a way to publicly discuss his infamous 2006 Laugh Factory incident. How many web series creators can say they were so vigorously in the public eye?

No word yet as to what changes (if any) season 2 will bring, but Seinfeld understands the show is still very malleable and subject to improvisational change “It’s kind of a new paradigm that we’re trying to create,” he said in an interview with the Times. “I think we both were craving that little sandbox feeling we had when we started out.”

Additionally, Seinfeld and Sony may have to reconsider the ad-free format as a way to turn a little profit. “This next go-round we’re going to have to figure out some sort of revenue stream, so it makes more sense,” the Seinfeld star admitted. Sony Pictures Television President Steve Mosko added that “high-end advertisers were banging on our doors,” but claimed Seinfeld didn’t want the show to feel cluttered. This go-round, don’t be surprised if things are a little more monetized. I have faith Seinfeld will show restraint and will not re-title the show Comedians In Bentleys Drinking Folgers.
