Halo 4. Far Cry 3. Borderlands 2. Black Ops 2. In the span of a few weeks, all of these sequel-tastic video games have released web series companions to align with their upcoming or recent releases. We can now add Crysis 3 to the list. Crytek, the game’s developer, will work with EA and director Albert Hughes to release The 7 Wonders Of Crysis 3.
7 Wonders, which premieres December 12th on Crysis‘ official YouTube channel, will be created in machinima style and will release regular installments leading up to the game’s release in February. Though it’s not stated explicitly, I think it’s fair to assume that 7 Wonders will run for seven episodes. Call it a hunch.
Hughes is the most notable director associated with this recent crop of video game companions. Together with his twin brother Allen
, Hughes has directed modestly successful Hollywood films such as Menace II Society and Book of Eli. Unless his powers are sapped when he is separated from his brother, he should provide a steady hand. Check out the brief 7 Wonders trailer:Each precursory video game web series now falls into one of two categories: appropriate hype-building technique or marketing campaign inspired by Forward Unto Dawn. The reason Crysis 3‘s effort falls into the first category is because the game was tailor-made for a web series; after all, the Crysis series has always been known for its graphical prowess, making it an apt target for machinima videos. Therefore, expected 7 Wonders to pump up the upcoming game in a beautiful and appropriate way.
