Earlier this year, several fringe YouTube stars collaborated to bring us The Stooges, an offbeat comedy about two guys living life and dealing drugs. It drew a few thousand views for each of its seven episodes, and wrapped up by posting to YouTube a companion film called Little Odessa, which had received enough good press to bounce around a few film festivals.
Now, the producers of The Stooges have launched a Kickstarter page to help raise money for The Gateway, a proposed feature film that will follow the main characters from The Stooges as well as several other fresh faces, all of whom are thrust together when their paths cross at an eponymous desert hotel. We can only assume that hijinks will ensue. The film, produced by Amnesty Pictures, is seeking a $15,000 budget and hopes to being filming next year in the California desert.
The Stooges featured three prominent actors, and that trio hopes to return for The Gateway
. Eric Pumphrey, best known for his work on the Machinima-signed Reckless Tortuga channel, inhabits one of the starring roles, while former child star Luke Edwards (Newsies, The Wizard, Little Big League) plays a strung out Russian drug dealer. Finally, vlogger Rawn Erickson, best known for the seductively-thumbnailed accordion videos (yes, such a thing exists) on his Maker Studios-signed HiimRawn channel, makes an appearance as well.Director Natan Moss would love to use all the fancy-schmancy video equipment he owns to make The Gateway a reality, but he needs some financial support to make it happen. There’s even some mediocre swag involved, so if you’re feeling jazzed about the project, you know what to do. If not, well, maybe you need to watch The Stooges first. Finishing the series may leave you, like Edwards’ Russian druggie, strung-out and yearning for more.
