‘Annoying Orange’ Has A New President (And Other Election Notes)

Barack Obama was re-elected to the office of the President last night, an historic event that has necessitated heavy coverage on YouTube. However, lost amid all of the hullabaloo, a second champion has also been crowned: Annoying Orange has announced the winner of its Kitchen Decision 2012.

A few weeks ago, Annoying Orange began the Kitchen Decision competition, where several candidates vied to earn the esteemed position of President of the Kitchen. Viewers had a choice between Broccoli ‘Brocc’ Obama and (Peach) Pit Romney, with third party candidate Gyro coming on strong at the very end (consider him the Ross Perot of the kitchen.) However, in a shocking turn of events, write in candidate Marshmallow won the kitchen presidency, thanks to strong support from the Orange himself.

If that shocker doesn’t interest you (I mean, how could it not?) there’s still plenty of wrap-up coverage of the real election all over YouTube. Larry King

has been a standout online presence throughout the entire election cycle, and he wrapped things up in a big way last night, featuring five hours of coverage alongside several guests (including Dan Savage and Gary Johnson). One wonders how King will use his time now that the election has been decided; seems as if he’ll mainly keep up his Larry King Now interview series.

The YouTube politics hub has been a great resource for online election media, and it is still the place you should navigate to if you’re looking for postmortem analysis or the full video of last night’s speeches by both Obama and Romney (which have been posted online by the New York Times). Unfortunately, the politics hub completely failed to cover Kitchen Decision. Smells like media bias to me.
