Comedy Central Mocks Political Ads With ’30 Seconds Over Washington’

Annoying Orange isn’t the only web series with a current mission of parodying political ads. Comedy Central recently launched 30 Seconds Over Washington, a web series that makes fun of terrible political ads from past and present. The show is hosted by comedian Kyle Kinane and is presented as part of the network’s Indecision 2012 lineup, which features snarky news and analysis in an nice neat blog format.

30 Seconds Over Washington is broken into several different segments, some of which feature real politicians and others that showcase ‘fan ads’ on the Internet (we can only hope this one makes it in there). At any rate, the end result is always the same: we watch some nutjob espouse whatever weird policies he supports, and Kinane follows with one liner after one liner. It’s as if The Daily Show

met Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Kinane’s low-key, self-depricating standup was previously featured on Comedy Central Presents, and he can also be heard as one of the voiceover artists for the network’s promos. Now he joins the great brotherhood of web series hosts, so there’s nowhere to go but up.

One wonders how many crazy ads are out there. The 30 Seconds Over Washington team will have to work hard to find enough fodder for Kinane each episode. After all, they already used up Basil Marceaux. When you start with the craziest of them all, where do you go from there?
