Tuesday at #SMWLA: Sports, Startups, And A FREE Janelle Monae Concert

The big day has finally arrived: Social Media Week Los Angeles is here. Online innovators have flocked to the City of Angels, so hopefully you’re getting a chance to check out some of the super neat events that we highlighted on today’s agenda. If you enjoyed Monday’s schedule, then you’ll be happy to hear that tomorrow, SMWLA will host even more social media happenings around the city. You can sign up for any of the day’s events on the SMWLA schedule, but here’s a few particularly interesting keynotes, roundtables, and FREE CONCERTS to check out on Tuesday:

10 am, Egyptian Theatre: KEYNOTE: JEFF BERMAN, GM AT NFL DIGITAL MEDIA

Sports will be a major focus on Tuesday’s schedule, with several event dedicated to the online impact of athletic pursuits. No sport rules Facebook and Twitter more than the NFL; if you want to get a whiff of its power, take a look at the trending topics during tonight’s Packers-Seahawks tilt. Given the NFL’s reach, it’s great that Jeff Berman of NFL Digital Media will be presenting a keynote. If you’re a fan of the USA’s most popular league, you don’t want to miss this guy. Hopefully, he’ll make it through his entire presentation without anyone in the crowd booing the replacement refs.

1:30 pm, iO LA: SHOWCASE: IO/LA’S MOST CREATIVE STARTUPS: PART 1

I’m always looking for new tech startups that are going to make my life easier with an easy-to-use website or smartphone app. Tuesday afternoon, iO/LA will showcase their personal favorites among a slew of smart and creative new startups. Whether you’re an actor, musician, or photographer, there will be something on display for you at this showcase. It should be a fun, faced paced way to get yourself more connected with some of tomorrows hottest apps.

4 pm, Egyptian Theatre: BRAND AND BRAND: GETTING THE MOST OUT OF SPORTS MARKETING BY WORKING TOGETHER, HOSTED BY NOKIA X BURTON

Another sports related event will go down in the late afternoon, as Nick Sargent of Burton Snowboards will be hanging around to discuss brand partnerships in the extreme sports world. This is a topic that’s becoming more and more relevant in the online video community as brands like Red Bull gain huge amounts of publicity by working with extreme athletes. Burton is one of the biggest names in winter sports, so Sargent should have plenty to talk about with regard to his company’s collaboration with Nokia.

7:30 pm, Club Nokia LA Live: JANELLE MONÁE CONCERT AT CLUB NOKIA LA LIVE, PRESENTED BY NOKIA MUSIC & SMWLA

We wrote about this event last week, but I just have to reiterate: this is a totally FREE concert from one of R&B’s biggest superstars. All you have to do to see her live (and if you’ve ever seen her perform, you know how energetic her shows are) is follow this link, choose a song, tweet about it, enter some info, and BOOM, you’re there. If you’ve never heard Janelle Monae before, keep in mind that not only is her music awesome, but she also creates really neat music videos for her songs. It’s all going down tomorrow night so make sure you’re there, and remember to wear your finest tuxedo.

Again, there is much more going on besides this stuff. You can see everything on the schedule and sign up by clicking ‘Attend’. Enjoy the keynote/panel/show!
