Judging by those credits, Carboni’s got more than a good deal of experience providing critical analysis on a variety of devices in the genres of both gamer and tech. That’s something that will come in handy in Carboni’s new show New Challenger, where his video game reviews will also get reviewed.
Carboni begins each installment of New Challenger with
his own in-depth critique of the video game of the episode. After said critique, Carboni turns the mic over to a guest proficient in hand-eye coordination and the idiosyncrasies of first-person shooters to critique his critique. What follows is a kind of Talmudic discussion of the merits and shortfalls of Carboni’s review and, in turn, the video game itself. It’s a meta take on review shows that sounds headier on paper than it is in practice, but still gives New Challenger a clever edge by which to differentiate itself from the myriad other video game review shows on the web. If you dig analysis of analysis of critically acclaimed or consumer hyped video game titles, give this one a watch.
