Video Game Reviews Reviewed

Technophile Anthony Carboni plays host on a set of web and gadget savvy original web series for new media studio Revision3, including the on-hiatus Bytejacker (resources and reviews for downloadable and independent video games with its own downloadable and independent vidoe game), the daily App Judgement (your “source for app reviews and previews”), and the Sony-centric SGNL (a look at the Japanese media conglomerate and electronics manufacturer’s “gadgets, games, music, and movies”).

Judging by those credits, Carboni’s got more than a good deal of experience providing critical analysis on a variety of devices in the genres of both gamer and tech. That’s something that will come in handy in Carboni’s new show New Challenger, where his video game reviews will also get reviewed.

Carboni begins each installment of New Challenger with

his own in-depth critique of the video game of the episode. After said critique, Carboni turns the mic over to a guest proficient in hand-eye coordination and the idiosyncrasies of first-person shooters to critique his critique. What follows is a kind of Talmudic discussion of the merits and shortfalls of Carboni’s review and, in turn, the video game itself.

It’s a meta take on review shows that sounds headier on paper than it is in practice, but still gives New Challenger a clever edge by which to differentiate itself from the myriad other video game review shows on the web. If you dig analysis of analysis of critically acclaimed or consumer hyped video game titles, give this one a watch.
