‘The LXD’ Cuts a Rug, Premieres on Hulu July 7

Get your dance-watching shoes on the ready! One of the most highly anticipated web series is set to launch in less than two weeks. Paramount Digital Entertainment recently announced Jon M. Chu’s The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (The LXD) will premiere on Hulu on Wednesday, July 7.

Created and directed by Chu (who is famous for dance flicks – Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3-D – that bring the boogie but not necessarily the exposition) in association with Agility Studios, The LXD is the the story of “heroes and villains with amazing powers of dance, that band together in rival factions, with an epic back-story and mythology woven around how the various dance styles in the hip-hop world came to be.”

The action will unfold in three separate volumes, the first of which encompasses the first ten LXD episodes. Collectively dubbed “The Uprising Begins,” those initial installments feature some of the “world’s best dancers” presumably portraying archetypes in a classic good vs. evil, Heroes redux kinda showdown.

As the press release goes, “there’s high school outcast Trevor Drift (Bboy Luis “Luigi” Rosado); fallen soldier Sp3cimen (Popper Chadd “Madd Chadd” Smith

); and the unassuming hero Elliot Hoo (Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr.). All are called to join The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers and to fulfill their destiny through their superpowers of dance.”

If the marketing leading up to the launch of The LXD is any indication of quality, you should expect this web series to be epic. Chu’s leveraged his Hollywood connections, sizable online presence, and incredibly talented crew to score gigs performing on tour with the cast of Glee, on an episode of So You Think You Can Dance, and at this year’s TED conference and Oscars.

Come July 7, The LXD will also be the second, big-budget, star-studded web series to launch on Hulu in the past month. Jaleel White’s Fake It Til You Make It debuted on the site in early June.

Hopefully, by the time The LXD premieres, Hulu won’t make you pay to watch it.
