Microsoft Re-Ups 'The Guild', Season 3 Coming Summer

Microsoft has ordered a third season of Felicia Day’s Streamy-winning gamer comedy web series The Guild, with 12 new episodes set to come out this summer. The deal comes after a successful run of Season 2, which netted several million views so far for Microsoft on its network that included Xbox Live, MSN and the Zune, including dominating the charts of the Zune Marketplace.

The exclusive distribution deal, along with the sponsorship from Sprint which was announced last November has

been renewed, though presumably at a higher upfront rate than before. As Felicia told us in a recent interview, she and the team at Knights of Good seem happy about having Microsoft on board:

Day:  It’s an amazing opportunity. We turned down DOZENS of deals for the show because I wanted to retain creative autonomy, rights and keep the grassroots spirit of the show, as well as partner with a person who could distribute on a global level. Xbox has been a fantastic partner in enabling us to grow the show and up our production values, I can’t think of a better pairing.

Sales of The Guild’s Season 2’s DVD are being handled exclusively through Amazon, which may or may not turn out to be a lucrative for the show’s creators. Word is that production of the third season will begin this June.
