Seann William Scott of 'American Pie' on Heavy.com

While working on Role Models, some of David Wain‘s affinity for original online series must have rubbed off on Seann William Scott.

Starting Friday, January 9, the former fratacular Stifler of American Pie will sit alongside the former ESPN Dream Jobber Nick Stevens as co-host of Heavy.com‘s Burly Sports Show. Scott will help Stevens riff on NFL losers and ogle athletic females to appease Heavy’s young, male demo and promote his upcoming feature film Ball’s Out: The Gary Houseman Story.

According to a MediaPost interview with Heavy.com CEO Simon Assaad, Scott’s co-hosting stint will be the first of many celebrity appearances on the site.

Assadd believes in what he calls a “Saturday Night Live model, where we bring in a featured celebrity every week to promote something they’re working on, and create entertaining content at the same time.” It’s a smart move by Heavy, and the fact that Hollywood talent is using episodic, online video as a serious promotional tool is (as Assad also notes) a definite sign of the maturation of the medium

We told you 2009 would be all about celebs.
