College Humor Represented

The online entertainment destination where college kids of past and present go to waste time with light-hearted irreverence just got some serious representation.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that College Humor signed with United Talent Agency as the website continues to work on a movie for MTV films and its online originals gain popularity. ###

Founded in 1999 by two high-school friends from Baltimore who were split up after attending different universities, College Humor was originally a space for them to share all the videos, pictures, and links they would send back and forth amongst their social circles. But in the past 8 years it’s gotten a lot bigger.

As the website says, “Basically, we’ve got a ton of crap.” That “crap” includes not-so-austere pictures of Cute College Girls of the Day, a steady supply of sardonic literature, viral videos, and original comedic programming that is some of the best, most clever on the web.

Prank Wars – an escalating battle of extreme embarrassment between two College Humor staffers that’s beginning to border on cruel (though still delightful to watch) – and

Commenter Business Meeting – a depiction of a white collar presentation where all the VPs act like they’re commenting on a YouTube clip – are two series that are earning some well-deserved exposure.

Purchased by Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp in August 2006, College Humor’s hopes its arrangement with UTA will give the site’s productions, and it’s feature film slated for a Christmas 2008 release, more Hollywood Exposure. For UTA, the deal marks the latest addition to its impressive list of web personalities and properties that the company represents.

“We’re in New York, and we know about the Internet world,” said Ricky Van Veen, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the site. “We don’t have eyes and ears in Los Angeles. Partnering with UTA is a way to bridge that gap.”
