Send your Videos to Sara

Apparently, everyone getting hired by YouTube to edit content only has a first name. Meet Sara, YouTube’s new film editor.

Sara will be vlogging on The Story Board, her official YouTube channel, spotlighting worthwhile films available for viewing on the mastadon of video-sharing sites.

It seems that the other part of her job is harassing people into putting better quality films on YouTube with the promise of being featured on the site. (And you know they feature videos forever. I still can’t shake the bizarre thumbnail image of the bespectacled man wearing a tinfoil hat that graced the Director Videos sidebar for what seemed like half a year.) Her first assignment is to scout the Tribeca Film Festival, whose recent ventures into new media we discussed a few days ago

, for filmmakers who are willing to screen their movie on YouTube.

Going along with the fact that the Tribeca Film Festival is essentially one large market to get an independent movie purchased by a distribution studio, which still doesn’t happen to most of the films that find their way there, this push by YouTube could change film festivals like TFF from being graveyards where indie documentaries go to die to welcome online exposure spurring longevity and independent DVD sales.
