T-Series has completed its dominant September. The Indian record label ran the table at #1 for an entire month in the Global Top 50. To complete that winning streak, T-Series collected 946.5 million weekly views, pushing its YouTube-leading lifetime tally above 357 billion. Will it ever become the first YouTube trillionaire?

That discussion is for much farther down the line. For now, let’s knock off a few zeroes and talk about the channels that are getting about 300 million weekly views. Some of those hubs share a few qualities, and animated content is one form of common ground.
Anything humans can do, animations can do better
A lot of staggering videos have crossed my Shorts feed since I started writing this column, but the recent rash of “meat cooked for X minutes” clips is as bizarre as it gets. Perhaps you’ve seen these videos: They begin with cook times that are so brief that they’re more likely to deliver salmonella than high view counts.
Creators who want to participate in the quick-cook trend therefore face a dilemma: Do you eat the undercooked food? If you don’t, then your video will lose shock value. But if you do, you could face dire consequences. It’s a no-win situation.
Capybluh has found a solution to that problem. The short-form channel’s top videos typically feature one or two hosts: There’s a Lego-looking guy and his pet rodent (which gives the capybara-themed channel its name).
By using animated hosts, Capybluh forfeits the human connection that some channels rely on. At the same time, it can participate in the “weird cook times” without risking any food poisoning. And when the trend requires an hour-long cook time, Capybluh can blowtorch away without worrying about burning the house down.
Since AI advancements made animated avatars easier and cheaper to build, we’ve seen a number of creators experiment with those characters as human replacements. One notable example is Kwebbelkop, the Dutch YouTuber who is hoping to one day replace himself with VTuber alternatives. As he argues, animated characters can do everything humans can do, but without tiring or getting burned out.
That philosophy has brought a surge of animated avatars into the Global Top 50. As viewers crave more extreme challenges, creators are responding with characters who can handle those tasks.
Take BlobbyClips, who finished two spots ahead of Capybluh in the latest Global Top 50, reaching 48th place. Blobby is a stick figure who can be placed into any extreme situation his maker wants to put him in. By using that strategy, BlobbyClips was able to collect 291.5 million weekly views during the final week of September.
Blobby’s choice of video game is also an important part of this conversation. The stick figure avatar is one of the characters who appeals to the low-attention-span generation by pairing stories within unrelated Minecraft footage in the background.
Random Minecraft or Roblox clips are welcome background additions for overstimulated kids, but they’re also sources for those animated characters that can be so versatile on YouTube Shorts. Grand Theft Auto VI is part of that ecosystem, too, so don’t be surprised if people use Rockstar’s shiny new engine to cook a piece of chicken for a whole hour.
