Fujifilm’s X100V got so big on TikTok that it sold out. The next camera in that line has arrived.

Fujifilm has announced the sequel to one of the TikTok community’s favorite cameras. The Japanese imaging company has opened preorders for the X100VI, a new option in the popular X100 series.

The last time Fujifilm added to the X100 line was in February 2020, when it launched the X100V. The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a creative boom on TikTok and spawned a new generation of influencers. As those fresh-faced TikTokers looked to upgrade their equipment, many of them turned to the X100VI, which offers a compact design and high-quality footage. By 2022, the camera’s order volume became so massive that Fujifilm temporarily suspended all new orders so it could restock parts.

These days, on Amazon, a refurbished X100V costs about $1,600. For the same price, camera enthusiasts can preorder the X100VI. Shipping will start around the end of February, but some creators have already gotten their hands on Fujifilm’s latest product. Photographer Kostas Garcia took the X100VI to the streets of Tokyo and shared some of the resulting snapshots on his TikTok page.

Some may argue that the X100V only became TikTok’s favorite camera because it happened to be a top-of-the-line model when the pandemic hit. Those naysayers should check out the early reviews of the X100VI; outlets like Gizmodo have concluded that the new camera is an improvement on its predecessor thanks in part to its enhanced specs.

A $1,600 camera is a big investment for any creator, but the X100VI is sure to be ballyhooed. After all, some photographers have been waiting for the arrival of Fujifilm’s new model. Now, that day is here.
