Red Bull is bringing a unique Apex Legends experience to the Windy City. Chicago’s Godfrey Hotel will play host to the Red Bull Legends Inn, a weekend-long activation that will bring the gaming, hospitality, and marketing worlds together for a spectacular battle royale.
The Legends Inn activation will take place on November 8 and will involve 38 elite Apex Legends players. The headliners for the event are iiTzTimmy and ImperialHal, who have emerged as two of the biggest stars in the burgeoning Apex Legends community. The Electronic Arts-published game is a more adult-oriented entry in the battle royale genre, especially when compared to Fortnite. The Apex Legends user base rose to 18 million active monthly players last year, though it has declined year-over-year since then.
Red Bull’s creative take on an Apex Legends match will look to invigorate the game’s community. iiTzTimmy and ImperialHal will invite Apex pros into the Godfrey, where they’ll be joined by two teams selected through an online qualifier. The players will be split into pairs and checked into hotel rooms, where they’ll stay as they attempt to survive eight rounds of in-game challenges. The total prize pool for the event will be $25,000.
The Godfrey’s rooms will be transformed into gaming dens filled with high-end tech. Red Bull Legends Inn partner AGON by AOC will deliver top-of-the-line monitors, and rooms will be outfitted with custom designs and exclusive merch. As duos are eliminated in-game, the lights will go off in their room, which will allow passersby to check the score by looking at the hotel’s windows.
The Red Bull Legends Inn is betting on the potential of hotel-based activations as a form of creator marketing. The U.K.-based septet known as the Sidemen tried something similar through a partnership with Ghsthotels, which is developing a Sidemen-themed hotel filled with custom touches.
Red Bull will have some Apex Legends aficionados check into the Legends Inn, where a studio crowd will be assembled. Other fans of the game can join the fun online, where a stream will offer interactive participation in the event. Viewer input will dictate the rules of engagement by limiting players to certain weapons or characters.
The Red Bull Twitch and Red Bull Gaming YouTube channels will host the stream, with Nicewigg, Greek, and GlitterXplosion serving as casters. If you want to get tickets to the in-person event, or if you want to compete for one of the coveted qualifier spots, you can find more information about the Legends Inn via the Red Bull website.
