MrBeast and Mark Rober’s #TeamSeas has deleted 34 million pounds of trash from oceans and beaches

In a little under three years, MrBeast and Mark Rober‘s ocean conservation project #TeamSeas has cleaned up over 34 million pounds of trash from oceans, rivers, and beaches around the world.

The duo launched #TeamSeas (a followup to their massive forest conservation undertaking #TeamTrees) in October 2021 with the goal of raising $30 million to clean up 30 million pounds of trash. Hundreds of creators came together to support #TeamSeas—and so did big platforms like YouTube and well-known figures like Susan Wojciki, Jimmy Kimmel, and Luminar Technologies founder/CEO Austin Russell

In total, #TeamSeas raised more than $33 million from people in over 200 countries and territories around the world. Once it had that cash in hand, #TeamSeas partnered with Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup to get to work.

Now, after efforts from both those organizations and their thousands of volunteers, MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) and Rober can officially say #TeamSeas has surpassed their goal of 30 million pounds of trash removed.

“This couldn’t have happened without you guys all coming together, one donation at a time,” Donaldson says in a July 16 upload to the #TeamSeas YouTube channel.

“Creators flexed with their #TeamSeas songs, art, and even video games,” Rober adds. “With over 1.3 billion video views across over 20,000 social channels that posted #TeamSeas content, online communities from around the internet rallied together to raise money and give a fist bumb to Mother Earth.”

Donaldson and Rober sent out a big thank-you to all participants, from donors to creators to organization volunteers, calling #TeamSeas “the largest creator-led crowdfunding campaign in internet history.”

So, what’s next for the #TeamTrees, #TeamSeas team?

Rober says to stay tuned: “#TeamSeas has proved that when a huge amount of people get together to help make things better on this planet, big things can happen. And we can’t wait to do the next big thing together with you.”
