“It’s maybe the greatest crossover of all time”: ‘Hot Ones’ goes on a ‘Chicken Shop Date’

Sean Evans and Amelia Dimoldenberg have teamed up for a collaboration described as “the biggest crossover event in chicken-based interview history.” On November 2, Evans welcomed Dimoldenberg to the First We Feast channel, where she guest-starred on an episode of Hot Ones. The next day, Dimoldenberg uploaded her end of the bargain: An episode of Chicken Shop Date featuring Evans.

Evans and Dimoldenberg have used the same format to find success on YouTube. The former creator, a Chicago native, has gained renown for his blistering interview style, which matches the heat level of Hot Ones‘ gauntlet of spicy wings. In comparison, Dimoldenberg’s take on fried chicken interviews is chattier and more flirtatious. The Londoner has attracted more than 370 million lifetime views on her personal YouTube channel, where new episodes of Chicken Shop Date arrive about once per month.

The clash of these chicken-interview titans did not disappoint. In the Hot Ones episode, Evans helped his “chicken-fueled talk show host sister-in-arms” increase her spice tolerance.

Then, on Dimoldenberg’s channel, the two interviewers discussed their familiarity with the foodstuff that made them both famous. “If I hear the word chicken, I will turn around,” Dimoldenberg said. “Same with me,” Evans replied. “I recognize it more than my own name at this point.”

The Hot Ones/Chicken Shop Date crossover is more than just a monumental moment in YouTube (and chicken) history: It’s a chance for two experienced interviewers to answer some burning questions instead of asking them. Evans and Dimoldenberg have dug deep into the lives of their celebrity guests. Through their team-up, they both got chances to share their own stories. Evans opened up about the biggest crush he had on a guest while Dimoldenberg told the tale of the most chaotic Chicken Shop Date episode ever.

To learn the details of those situations, you’ll have to watch both videos. This particular collab has been years in the making, but Evans had a feeling it would happen one day. “I knew we’d do it eventually,” he said.
