Filian and her friends took on “The Wall” in an innovative VTuber game show

VTubers have shown themselves to be colorful, resilient, and capable of replacing traditional creators. But can they fit their motion-captured bodies through weirdly shaped holes?

That was the question Filian asked during a special Twitch stream that went live on October 24. The VTuber invited five other virtual creators — ShyLily, Camila, Projekt Melody, Trickywi, and LaynaLazar — to a game show set, where the assembled streamers contorted themselves to pass through a series of whimsically-shaped openings.

The show, dubbed VTuber Hole in the Wall, was produced by Strangeloop Studios, a company known for working with musical artists like Blackpink, SZA, and Kendrick Lamar. To bring digital avatars into the real world, Strangeloop passed out suits that allowed VTuber creators to control their respective characters. The result, according to Strangeloop, is the “first large scale independent motion capture variety game show VTuber event of its kind.”

Filian hosted VTuber Hole in the Wall on her Twitch channel, which reaches 720,000 followers. The six VTubers who participated in the game show have a combined reach of more than three million Twitch followers. The event also featured commentary from the AI-powered VTuber Neuro-sama

, who blew up on Twitch earlier this year (and then said some dicey things).

Strangeloop’s previous credits in the VTuber world include a concert headlined by virtual musician Kizuna AI and a number of homegrown characters, including LV4. With VTuber Hole in the Wall, the studio combined a pair of streaming industry trends. VTubers have become successful enough to turn their partner networks into billion-dollar enterprises. Meanwhile, flesh-and-blood creators like Ludwig have brought high-profile game show formats to audiences on platforms like Twitch and YouTube.

In addition to VTuber Hole in the Wall, Filian is linked to another of those blockbuster events. Later this year, she will host the first-ever VTuber Awards, which are being put on in partnership with Mythic Talent.
