Indigenous youth lead Snap’s first Canadian original ‘Reclaim(ed)’

Snap’s first Canadian original explores indigenous culture through a Gen Z lens.

The 10-part series, called Reclaim(ed), is hosted by Marika Sila, an Inuk actress and stunt performer who was just cast with her brother on the next season of The Amazing Race Canada, and Kairyn Potts, a two-spirit Nakota Sioux indigenous youth advocate, motivational speaker, model, and Twitch streamer.

Sila and Potts will travel across Canada to speak with First Nations youths about “important topics such as family, SLGBTQIA+ identity, treaties, the environment, community across Canada and more,” Snap says.

The series’ goal is for the duo to “reframe and reclaim cultural traditions and social issues from a Gen Z point of view,” Snap adds.

A trailer for the series (embedded below) shows interviewees talking about things like the devastating impacts of residential schools and how traditional ceremonies have changed.

Reclaim(ed)’s first episode dropped July 12 on Snapchat. One new episode will drop each Tuesday through September 13.

The series is produced by indigenous-owned, Winnipeg-based production company Eagle Vision.
