The channel behind the lo-fi beats playlists is giving out college scholarships

I first discovered the “lofi hip hop radio – beats to relax/study to” YouTube stream when I was a college student. Little did I know that if I had matriculated a decade later, the creator of that stream might have covered a big chunk of my tuition.

Lofi Girl, the channel and record label that hosts a collection of ambient and relaxing music streams, is launching a giveaway as it celebrates its ten-millionth subscriber on YouTube. It will provide 10 winners with college scholarships that will cover up to $50,000 of tuition.

According to the official rules of the contest, the scholarship can be used to cover a single year of tuition at any institution that provides “higher education within a public or private system. The money cannot be used to cover “the cost of accommodation, meals, travel, clothing and equipment (decoration, textbooks, IT and technical equipment, etc.).”

Entrants can increase their chances of winning if they earn “points” by completing certain actions. These actions include subscribing to Lofi Girl on social media, sharing the news of the giveaway on Instagram, and uploading a specific avatar alongside the giveaway form.

This is the third part of Lofi Girl’s ten million subscriber celebration. The channel gave away gift cards and vinyl records

during the initial section of the sweepstakes, and it followed that up by promising laptops, iPads, and tablets to a lucky group of winners. The scholarships are not only the label’s most significant gift to its fans thus far, but also a recognition of the studious nature of Lofi Girl’s content and clientele.

Lofi Girl, originally known as Chilled Cow, has been popular on YouTube for years, especially among listeners who use easygoing music to focus. The channel’s status ascended to another level of fame during the pandemic, when it emerged as a common choice for a work-from-home soundtrack. Lofi Girl even got big enough to serve as the star of YouTube’s 2021 year-end festivities.

“I want to dedicate the special prize to the group of people who are the main reason behind this channel’s success: students,” said Lofi Girl in a statement. “Just like me, you have worked and continue to work hard to finish countless assignments, achieve high grades and get into your dream colleges/universities, and your efforts are inspiring to say the least. I want to thank you for doing what you do, and also for letting me be a part of your journey.”

If you’re currently attending college and would like Lofi Girl to subsidize your education, you can enter the giveaway by clicking here.
