Valkyrae Scrapped Her Skin Care Venture Over Blue Light Claims. Now Addison Rae’s Giving It A Go.

Valkyrae is a bit flummoxed about another creator’s moves in the skin care sphere, following a kerfuffle that emerged around her now-defunct cosmetics venture, RFLCT.

Valkyrae, whose real name is Rachell Hofstetter, shuttered her skin care brand in November after severe backlash resulting from its claims about preventing skin damange caused by digital screens, which many found to be dubious.

At the time, Hofstetter said she wanted to make research that the company had conducted public, but wasn’t able to – which led to RFLCT being shuttered roughly two weeks after being announced.

Now, Dexerto notes, fellow creator-turned-beauty entrepreneur Addison ‘Rae’ Easterling has launched her own blue light protection product called Screen Break through her beauty brand, Item Beauty. The $20 mist comprises “a botanical blend clinically proven to protect skin from screen-emitted HEV blue light and daily pollution.”

“I’m re-branding to just ‘Valky’. How is this real?” Hofstetter – who just re-signed at YouTube Gamingtweeted in response, quipping at the fact that both creators have ‘Rae’ in their usernames. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same company.”

Of course, it’s worth noting that while Screen Break is just one of many different products in the greater Item makeup and skin care lineup, Hofstetter’s RFLCT brand was solely conceived to combat screen damage.

Item Beauty launched in Aug. 2020 by Rae and Madeby Collective, an incubator that is a sister brand of Ipsy — the beauty subscription service startup founded by Michelle Phan.
