Simon Fuller, the British media entrepreneur who managed the Spice Girls and created American Idol, has formed a new music group via a TikTok hashtag challenge.
Dubbed The Future X, the group consists of three singers and four dancers, reports Variety, each of whom “auditioned” last fall by posting videos of themselves using the #NextInMusic hashtag, which generated 300 million collective views. Fuller told the outlet that The Future X is “the first group ever to be born on TikTok.”
Its members are: Angie Green, Luke Brown, Maci Wood, Jayna Hughes, Sasha Marie, Tray Taylor, and Drew Venegas.
Like previous TikTok collectives, The Future X will live together in Malibu, and chronicle music recording and performance prep ahead of planned shows in March, per Variety
. The Future X’s TikTok account has amassed 17,000 followers, and the group is currently hosting another hashtag competition in collaboration with makeup brand Elf to recruit potential makeup artists.“Simon and his team are always at the forefront of music and cultural trends,” Ole Obermann, TikTok’s global head of music, told Variety in a statement. ”We can’t wait to see what the group achieves and are excited for the community to be sharing in their journey, and of course their music, through their presence on TikTok.”
