Rooster Teeth, the anime and fandom-focused digital network owned by AT&T, is getting into the children’s entertainment space alongside indie kids’ book publisher Albert Whitman.
Rooster Teeth and 100-year-old Albert Whitman (through its Albert Whitman Media development and production division) will work together to adapt a slate of children’s books into animated series, starting with Zapato Power and Wish Library — with an eye to global distribution on broadcast and digital platforms.
Zapato Power follows the adventures of an ordinary kid who receives superpowered purple sneakers, while Wish Library sees three third-graders discovering a mysterious librarian who offers to help solve their problems.
“Rooster Teeth is delighted to expand its slate of animated properties to include Albert Whitman’s beloved books as we expand our storytelling efforts in the children’s genre,” Rooster Teeth Studios head Ryan Hall said in a statement. “Our mission has always been to spark long-lasting love with content franchises, and we are proud to say Rooster Teeth’s dedicated community of fans can now share their fandom across generations.”
Rooster Teeth’s biggest original hits include sci-fi series Red vs. Blue and American anime RWBY. Albert Whitman is best known for its Boxcar Children book series.
