Snap Launches Standalone Story Creation App With New Editing Tools, Multi-Platform Publishing

Snap announced at its Partner Summit today that it will launch a standalone app called Story Studio comprising more sophisticated editing tools so that users can create more professional-looking Stories.

Additionally, Stories created within the new app can be shared to Snapchat and beyond, onto the myriad platforms that have adopted the Stories format, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, and more. Creators can also post their finished Stories directly to Snapchat’s new Spotlight platform from within Story Studio, or download it to their camera rolls.

In terms of editing tools, Story Studio will furnish frame-precise trimming, slicing and cutting, and frame-precise placement of captions, stickers, and sounds, Snapchat says.

The app will also give users insights into larger trends that are happening across Snapchat so that they can incorporate popular topics, sounds, and Lenses in real-time. The app also lets users tap into Snap’s AR technology, including Lenses and cross-clip transitions, and provides access to the platform’s licensed music and audio clip library. Finally, Story Studio lets users save and edit projects until they’re ready to share them,

Story Studio is launching later this year for free on iOS.

Snap’s Partner Summit annually showcases how its partners have used the Snapchat platform to grow their businesses. At the event, the company also announced that it now counts 280 million daily active users and 50 million monthly active users globally, with 40% of our community now located outside of North America and Europe.
