YouTube talk show luminaries Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal are set to launch their first scripted podcast, a supernatural noir comedy entitled Ronstadt.
The best friends and creative partners will co-produce and star in the nine-episode series. Per Variety, McLaughlin will voice the titular character, who works in a 911 call center in Los Angeles that’s in charge of protecting citizens from supernatural occurrences. Ronstadt has supernatural abilities, and subsequently learns of a monster that leads him into a magical otherworld that is seemingly out to get him.
Neal will portray smaller roles throughout the series, Variety reports, including a character named ‘Kneeslapper’.
The series was produced by podcast studio QCode through its Wood Elf label, which matches digital creators with original narrative genre podcasts, as well as McLaughlin and Neal’s overarching media company, Mythical Entertainment. Wood Elf is also behind The Edge Of Sleep, a podcast starring and co-produced by fellow YouTuber Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach that launched in September.
The first two episodes of Ronstadt will bow on June 1, with the remaining seven rolling out every week thereafter.
“When QCode invited us to be a part of Ronstadt, we jumped at the chance to get our feet (or technically, our ears) wet in the scripted podcast world,” McLaughlin and Neal told Variety in a statement. “We loved the freaky and funny world the creators, Johnny Strailey and Brando Bestenheider, had built and felt it was a perfect fit for Mythical’s first foray into this medium. We’re excited to take our fans along for this wild auditory ride.”
McLaughlin and Neal’s YouTube series, Good Mythical Morning, counts 17 million subscribers and garners 70 million monthly views. The duo also host a weekly chat podcast called Ear Biscuits.
