Kids’ content giant Moonbug is pushing further into China via a new distribution deal with Tencent Video — a streaming platform owned by Chinese internet giant Tencent that hosts drama series, films, variety shows, animation, sports content, and more.
As part of the deal, four Moonbug properties — animated series Go Buster; nursery rhymes channels Playtime With Twinkle; and KiiYii and The Sharksons, an animated series about a family of sharks — will launch this month on Tencent Video in both English and Mandarin. Moonbug develops values-based educational content for kids, it says, that promotes compassion and empathy while teaching fundamental life skills.
This marks Moonbug’s second foray into China, following a deal announced with Xigua earlier in April that saw it bring Little Baby Bum — Moonbug’s first and flagship IP — to Xigua Video. (Xigua, which also owns TikTok‘s parent company, Bytedance, hosts both short and long-form content on its eponymous video service). All told, Moonbug programming is distributed in 26 languages across 100 platforms globally, including YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Joyn, Sky, and Roku.
“We have experienced a huge volume of global expansion this year, and this strategic partnership with Tencent will further enhance exposure for some of our new and younger brands within the Chinese market,” Nicolas Eglau, Moonbug’s head of EMEA and APAC, said in a statement.
