Twitch is putting a twist on award shows.
The streaming platform today unveiled the Chat’s Choice Awards, which will dole out awards to various video games across 13 categories, from Best Ongoing Game to Savior of Quarantine to Cutest In-Game Moment of the Summer.
But, unlike typical award shows, Twitch’s won’t crown one universal winner for each category. Here’s how things work: Twitch consulted a group of creators to nominate five games per category. On Sept. 3, any creator can co-stream the show’s official broadcast. While it’s airing, each streamer’s chat room will use the site’s voting tools to decide their own winner from those nominees.
This means awards will be tailored to creators’ communities, Twitch said.
“So, if your community is super into Animal Crossing, while everyone else seems way more into battle royales, give Animal Crossing an award!” it said. “Sure, we have plenty of opinions, but yours are the ones that matter most.”
The Chat’s Choice Awards broadcast will feature appearances from streamers AnneMunition (623K followers), BaerTaffy (80.7K), BruceGreene (148K), CupAhNoodle (29.6K), DansGaming (817K), DechartGames (413K), DuendePablo (515K), Emiru (216K), LEGIQN (202K), Northernlion (359K), Pokimane (5.4 million), Swiftor (1.2 million), and Trihex (432K).
Viewers can tune in to the show on co-streaming creators’ channels or on twitch.tv/twitchgaming Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. Eastern.
