Studio71 UK Is Bringing TLC YouTube Series ‘Countdown To I Do’ To The Small Screen

The U.K. faction of top multi-channel network Studio71 is bringing a hit wedding-themed YouTube series to TV for TLC.

TLC UK has commissioned a linear iteration of Countdown To I Do, which Studio71 originally produced for the lifestyle and family-focused brand’s U.K. YouTube channel, which counts 4 million subscribers and has recently been nabbing roughly 80 million monthly views. The series — which is entirely self-shot by brides, grooms, friends, and family — follows the hours leading up to a couple’s wedding ceremony. The series explores every aspect of the big day — from proposals to planning to dresses and venue shopping — and then revisits each couple one year later.

The series debuted on the TLC UK YouTube channel last fall, and five 30-minute episodes have been commissioned for television. The weddings were shot last summer, and the retrospective interviews are now being conducted remotely, in accordance with current coronavirus lockdown regulations, per Studio71.

“We’re thrilled to use our experience of working with hundreds of online talent who self-shoot every day and apply that to the most dramatic day of a couple’s lives, training them to tell their story authentically via self-shooting,” Jody Smith, the VP and creative director of Studio71 UK, said in a statement. “Joining each couple again, one year later, provides a perspective often overlooked by wedding formats, with each of our couples experiencing big, joyful life changes by the time of their anniversaries.”
