Twitch To Launch ‘Stream Star’ Singing Competition Series With $20,000 Prize

Twitch is entering the well-trod singing competition format with a brand new series.

With Twitch Sings: Stream Star, the platform will seek to discover promising music creators. The competition will culminate at the inaugural TwitchCon Europe gathering in Berlin this April, where finalists will compete onstage for a $20,000 grand prize.

Twitch Sings: Stream Star will live within Twitch Sings — a karaoke-style game that is currently in beta but will roll out soon. The game comprises over a thousand songs that streamers can choose from — as well as features that enables streamers and their communities to collaborate on creative, one-of-a-kind performances.Viewers can request songs, cheer to activate light shows onstage, and even send challenges for streamers to tackle.

In order to enter, creators must sign up for the Twitch Sings Beta

and sing a song on the platform, and then submit a Video On Demand (VOD) version of the performance. Twitch will then choose the top eight performers to compete in a head-to-head competition online, with the field being narrowed down to four finalists after viewers vote. The four finalists will then be flown to TwitchCon Europe to hash it out onstage.

“Our hope is that Twitch Sings: Stream Star will create opportunities for a new group of stars to shine on Twitch,” said Twitch chief marketing officer Kate Jhaveri. “There is so much talent on Twitch and the competition is a way for us to support the next wave of performers and make sure their talent is both rewarded and visible to a huge audience.”
