YouTube Updates Voice Search On Android With New Interface, Commands

YouTube is toying around with new voice command features.

In the latest edition of its Android app, rolling out now, voice search has received a new interface and navigational commands. Users who have received the update will see a pop-up prompt, and tapping the microphone icon will now load a fullscreen experience that looks like YouTube’s dark mode, reports 9 To 5 Google, with a red button at the bottom of the screen that pulsates when users speak. Transcriptions of search queries appear before they are enacted.

Unlike the previous voice search feature — which was standard across all Android apps — the updated version allows users to navigate different parts of the YouTube app directly, including ‘Show me trending videos.’ This same ‘Show me’ command also works for subscriptions, history, and more, per 9 To 5 Google. Voice commands can also now be harnessed to resume videos that are already in progress.
