Popular burger chain In-N-Out has filed a restraining order against the YouTuber Cody Roeder. On his Trollmunchies channel, Roeder posed as the chain’s CEO and stormed into two In-N-Out locations in California, berating employees and causing a scene in front of customers, reports The Orange County Register.
Roeder, who is a former member of the Team Kaliber competitive Call Of Duty team, counts 628,000 subscribers on his Trollmunchies prank channel. The 27-year-old has also conducted similar stunts at Taco Bell and Ralphs — though neither has taken any legal action as of now.
In-N-Out filed its suit last Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, saying that the stunts “caused significant and irreparable harm,” and seeking damages of more than $25,000. In addition to keeping Roeder out of its restaurants, In-N-Out wants Roeder’s crew — who accompanied and filmed him — banned as well. “We have recently seen an increase of visitors to our stores, who are not customers but instead are intentionally disruptive and who then try to promote themselves through social media,” In-N-Out attorney and EVP Arnie Wensinger
told the Register in a statement.First, Roeder turned up at a Van Nuys restaurant claiming to be the manager and demanding a cheeseburger and fries for a taste test. When employees didn’t consent, he left.
But the next day, the Register reports, he tried the same stunt at a Burbank location. When employees still weren’t buying it, he approached a customer, took his burger and threw it on the ground, claiming that it was contaminated. The customer, however, appears to have been a fellow YouTube prankster named BaskTV, with whom Roeder has previously collaborated. A 10-minute YouTube video chronicling both incidents on March 14 had clocked 27,000 views, but has subsequently been removed from Roeder’s channel.
