You Can Visit ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ On Twitch Today

Today is Fred Rogers’ 90^th birthday, so Twitch is celebrating with a Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood marathon.

You can tune into the marathon starting today at 1 PM ET, on Twitch.tv/misterrogers. If you don’t make it for the beginning, don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of days to tune in. Twitch will play all 856 episodes of the former PBS series (which might be all of them, though Wikipedia puts the total number of Mister Rogers episodes close to 900). You can also watch right here:

Watch live video from MisterRogers on www.twitch.tvThe marathon also comes in time to celebrate Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’s 50^th anniversary. The show first debuted in February 1968 on national public television, before PBS had even become a TV network.

Twitch broadcaster Futuremangaming will emcee the marathon, chiming in every now and then with a modern-day perspective on old episodes. Other broadcasters will have the ability to co-stream the marathon and offer their own commentaries, a feature Twitch has used to publicize past events on the platform (like Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards last month). So far, confirmed co-streamers include Danielthedemon, Deejayknight, Goobers515, Imperialgrrl, Lowco, and others.

This also isn’t Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood‘s debut on Twitch. Back in May, the Amazon

-owned streaming platform, which focuses on gaming content, featured an 18-day marathon of the children’s show.

Twitch has hosted a number of old TV show marathons in the past. This past June, the streaming service showed 38 episodes of cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000. Before that, Twitch viewers got a healthy dose of Julia Child’s television series, The French Chef, in March 2016, and a screening of 831 Power Rangers episodes (consisting of multiple different Power Rangers TV iterations, of which there have been around 25). And let’s not forget the 403-episode Twitch marathon of Bob Ross’s Joy of Painting back in 2015.

Rogers passed away in 2003, two years after he stopped hosting his television show. During the course of his career, Rogers received a Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Peabody Award, as well as induction into the Television Hall of Fame. One of his cardigans, which he buttoned at the start of every Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood episode, currently sits on display at the Smithsonian Institution. Tom Hanks is also set to play Rogers in an upcoming movie about the beloved TV personality, You Are My Friend.
