Amazon has tapped the creators of Netflix’s animated smash BoJack Horseman as it weighs its own foray into adult-leaning animation.
BoJack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and writer/producer Kate Purdy are helming a half-hour series at Amazon called Undone about a woman named Alma who develops an elastic relationship with time following a near-fatal car accident. She then uses this ability to find out the truth about her father’s death. Amazon had previously developed several animated pilots via its Pilot Season initiative, according to Deadline — including Supanatural and Dark Minions — though neither was ultimately picked up. Undone is currently in pre-production, according to Amazon, and will premiere on Prime Video in 2019.
Alma will be voiced by Rosa Salazar, while Angelique Cabral will play her younger sister. The series will be produced by Michael Eisner’s Tornante Company, with Bob-Waksberg and Purdy serving as executive producers alongside Noel Bright
, Steven Cohen, and Tommy Pallotta. Dutch artist Hisko Hulsing will oversee the production design and direct the animation teams, which include Amsterdam-based Submarine and Austin-based Minnow Mountain.“Hisko’s beautiful artwork and masterful use of light and color will create a look never seen before on a television show that will make audiences lose their minds,” Bob-Waksberg said in a statement.
Amid the Amazon deal, Bob-Waksberg and Purdy will continue their work with Netflix, per Deadline. BoJack Horseman, which premiered in 2014, is set to return for a fifth season, and Netflix also recently greenlighted another animated series from the team titled Tuca & Bertie, which will star buzzy comic Tiffany Haddish, who is also on board to executive produce.
