First Slate From Lionsgate’s Rebranded Digital Studio Features Meghan Rienks, Annie LeBlanc

Lionsgate’s recently-rebranded digital content studio, Studio L, has unveiled its first-ever film and TV slate, comprising three millennial-aimed features set to premiere this spring. Studio L, which develops, finances, produces, and distributes premium projects for digital distribution, is led by EVP Seth Laderman, who in turn reports to Lionsgate Television Group COO Laura Kennedy.

YouTube star Meghan Rienks will topline female high school drama The Honor List, formerly titled Honored, alongside Sasha Pieterse (Pretty Little Liars), Arden Cho (Teen Wolf), and Instagram star Karrueche Tran. Arriving May 11, The Honor List is about a group of four former friends who reunite after a tragedy to cross items off their middle school bucket list. It’s the first project from PopSugar Films, the digital publisher’s movie division.

Additionally, Studio L has inked a content partnership with Brat, a teen-leaning digital production company launched by Niche co-founder Rob Fishman last year. As part of the deal, Studio L will distribute Chicken Girls: The Movie

, Brat’s first feature-length film inspired by its popular YouTube series of the same name. Starring influencer Annie LeBlanc, Chicken Girls has garnered 100 million views on YouTube to date.

“The projects announced today signal our commitment to finding stand-out material, incubating new talent, and delivering authentic storytelling,” Laderman said in a statement. “We will also continue to cultivate and foster fresh opportunities with existing Lionsgate properties, all built around Studio L’s low-risk, high-reward distribution model.”

Other projects on tap include Most Likely To Murder, a home-for-the-holidays noir-comedy starring Adam Pally, Rachel Bloom, and Vincent Kartheiser. Murder will premiere at South By Southwest, and then roll out widely on May 1. Studio L is prepping a second Blue Mountain State film and series based on two of its hit film properties: The Blair Witch Project and Waiting. Lastly, Studio L is working on film production partnerships with BuzzFeed and The Onion.
