Amazon Adds Twitch Compatibility For All Alexa-Enabled Devices

Amazon’s Echo Show device may have lost YouTube integration, but the e-tail giant announced today that is launching compatibility for Twitch on all Alexa-enabled devices nationwide.

According to a blog post, Echo device users will now be able to control Twitch (which is also owned by Amazon) with voice commands. The update will enable fans to watch their favorite Twitch channels directly from their devices, as well as discover new creators, receive notifications when followed streamers that go live, and set up reminders for when a Twitch Prime subscription becomes available.

In order to activate the Twitch ‘Skill’ — which is what Amazon calls Alexa’s various capabilities — users must enable the notifications permission for Twitch within the Alexa app. Once a user’s Twitch account has been linked to their Echo device, some of the voice commands that they can deploy include, ‘Alexa, ask Twitch for followed channels’, ‘Alexa, ask Twitch who’s playing World Of Warcraft

‘, or ‘Alexa, tell Twitch to suggest a game for me’. Users can also key up specific streams by saying, ‘Alexa, ask Twitch to play [Channel Name]’.

While the Twitch Skill is currently rolling out to all Alexa devices across the U.S., it will likely be most useful for the screen-enabled Echo Show, which is the only device with which Twitch fans will actually be able to watch gaming walkthroughs. You can read more about the update on Twitch’s official blog.
