BET is diving headfirst into the social media realm with the launch of a new award show property dubbed the BET Social Awards, which will air Feb. 11.
Executive produced by the actor/comedian Mike Epps, the event will highlight the year’s most ubiquitous — and cringeworthy — trending topics, social influencers, hashtags, memes, and viral moments across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Musical.ly and more. The hourlong BET Social Awards will broadcast live from Los Angeles at 10 pm ET. While the host, categories, and nominees will be announced at a later date, the show promises to feature social-inspired performances and comedy skits.
Kyra Robinson and Eric Conte will serve as EPs on the project, with Dan Weinreich producing. BET also hosts an annual flagship awards show called The BET Awards, which was founded in 2001 and celebrates African American accomplishments in music, acting, sports, and other fields. The cable network also airs a second music-specific award show called the BET Hip Hop Awards.
