First Original Docuseries On Ellen Degeneres’ Ellentube Welcomes Inner-City Kids To College

Back in February, Ellen Degeneres handed out a present described as “her biggest gift ever.” In tandem with Walmart, Degeneres handed out four-year college scholarships to a group of students from Summit High School in Brooklyn.

Nine months later, the pupils who benefitted from Degeneres’ generosity have ventured off to their New York state universities of choice, and the TV host is checking in with them. The first original documentary on her Ellentube platform is Summit, which features six of those scholarship winners as they begin to study at institutions of higher learning.

The first episode of Summit introduces the show’s six subjects and depicts their interactions with friends, family, and teachers back in Brooklyn. Future installments will continue to sketch the journey between high school and university while attempting to convey what that transition means to students who come from a community where college degrees are a rarity.

On the same day that the first episode of Summit went live, Degeneres welcomed the students at its center back to her TV program. On the air, she checked in with them about their collegiate choices and presented an additional gift from Walmart.

Summit is a true fit for Degeneres’ big-hearted brand and a nice way to introduce more documentary content into the Ellentube lineup. Check out the series across the Ellentube network, which can be found on its own digital hub, on YouTube, and on mobile devices.
