Netflix gets a bite of ‘Chicken Shop Date’

Netflix is getting a bucket of Chicken Shop Date.

Amelia Dimoldenberg‘s long-running flirty-casual interview series has lived on YouTube for the past 12 years, racking up a total of 115 episodes with celebrity guests like Andrew Garfield, Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Louis Theroux, Daniel Kaluuya, and Cher.

As it heads into its grand finale, Chicken Shop Date will continue to air on YouTube–but it will also be on Netflix.

Yup: Much to YouTube’s certain chagrin, Dimoldenberg is just the latest in a long line of creators Netflix has poached for distribution deals.

Chicken Shop Date‘s final season premieres on her YouTube channel Oct. 2, and will hit Netflix the same day, at the same time.

“From self-releasing our very first episode of Chicken Shop Date to partnering with Netflix, this journey has been all about connecting directly with people who love the show,” Dimoldenberg said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that our catalog is expanding its reach with Netflix, bringing our dates to a whole new world of fans without losing our original essence.”

Per Variety

, Netflix has also licensed past episodes of Chicken Shop Date, including Dimoldenberg’s interviews with Garfield, Harlow, Damson Idris, Central Cee, Sabrina Carpenter, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman.

It’s not clear from Variety‘s reporting whether Netflix is getting all 115 past episodes, or only a selection of high-profile installments. In the past, Netflix has done both kinds of back-catalog deals. (There’s also no mention of Netflix getting its hands on Dimoldenberg’s other projects, like her Formula 1 interview series Passenger Princess.)

Netflix’s back-catalog deals aren’t the ones truly worrying YouTube, though. It’s the agreements with creators like Salish Matter, Alan Chikin Chow, and the Stokes Twins–agreements that go beyond simply licensing and redistributing premade content; they’re full-scale developmentals, where Netflix is backing production of fresh (and, crucially, exclusive) shows.

While Chicken Shop Date is closing its doors, making that part of Dimoldenberg’s Netflix deal catalog only, the overall deal (if there is one) could include a developmental aspect where Netflix is involved in whatever is next for her.

But that, of course, is pure speculation.
