Halloween is one of YouTube’s most significant tentpoles. Each October, creators add their voices to the metaphorical candy pile with themed videos, while viewers flock to seasonal clips.
2017 brought a fresh slew of spooky scary content. YouTube has shared a playlist of the songs, horror movies, costumes, and pumpkin recipes that are receiving the most viewership around October 31. The videos reaching the tops of those respective categories highlight trending topics of the moment, such as the smash-hit Stephen King remake It, as well as on-the-rise creators like Roi of Guava Juice.
The It remake’s trailer, which conveys the atmosphere of the blockbuster, has helped it make $666 million at the global box office (no, that’s not a joke.) Out of ten trending trailers shared by YouTube, five are attached to movies released this year, while two more — for Saw and Child’s Play — highlight films that have received sequels this October.
YouTube also noted the titular monster from It as its second most-popular costume of this Halloween season, behind Evie from the Disney Channel original movie Descendants 2.
Beyond the world of paint and thread, YouTubers celebrated Halloween by sharing recipes for pumpkin eats and decorations. Guava Juice leads that list; his DIY, glow-in-the-dark, jello pumpkin recipe has received more than 4.2 million views to date.
With decorations in place, the last step for throwing a great Halloween party is a fitting soundtrack, and YouTube has data related to that, too. The video site tracked the music videos that were added to the most playlists ahead of the holiday, and Rockwell’s ‘Somebody’s Watching Me,’ which features Michael Jackson as a guest vocalist, took the top spot.
Here, via YouTube, is a complete ranking of songs that trend around this time of year:
1. Rockwell – Somebody’s Watching Me
2. Rob Zombie – Dragula
3. Rihanna – Disturbia
4. Rob Zombie – Living Dead Girl
5. Ray Parker Jr. – Ghostbusters
6. Michael Jackson – Thriller
7. twenty one pilots – Heathens
8. Backstreet Boys – Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)
9. The Cranberries – Zombie
10. Panic! At The Disco – It’s Almost Halloween
