Amazon’s Fall Pilot Season To Feature Projects From Glenn Close, Michael Patrick King

Amazon has announced the three series that will comprise its fall Pilot Season — whereby the streaming giant shares debut episodes of prospective series and then makes subsequent orders based on fan response.

All three half-hour pilots — The Climb, Love You More, and Sea Oak — will be available for Prime subscribers globally on Nov. 10.

Sea Oak is a genre-bending comedy based on a short story by renowned author George Saunders, and starring Emmy-winner Glenn Close. It follows a working-class woman who dies tragically in a home invasion, and then comes back from the dead full of rage, determined to get the life she never had. Love You More comes care of showrunner Michael Patrick King — of Sex And The City fame. It’s about a counselor for young adults with Down syndrome — played by Bridget Everett — whose need to stand up for people frequently manifests into fantasy rock music numbers. The Climb, created by Diarra Filpatrick (American Koko), is a comedy about a Detroit office assistant seeking internet fame.

“We’re excited about, and committed to, telling diverse and risky stories from the best storytellers in the world,” said Joe Lewis, Amazon Studios’ head of comedy, drama, and VR. “We can’t wait for customers to see these incredible new universes from Diarra, Bridget, Michael, and George.”

Amazon launched its Pilot Season initiative back in 2014, though it has more recently moved toward giving straight-to-series orders, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The company is also in the midst of something of a transitional moment as its recent offerings have failed to gain the critical and commercial traction of competitors. Furthermore, top video exec Roy Price resigned last week following sexual harassment allegations.
