Description: This past spring, the podcast S-Town found viral success with its profile of an outsized Alabaman. Now, an upcoming web series is looking to take the rural, gothic appeal of that show, add in supernatural elements, pick up some laughs, and end up with a series that will have its own unique appeal. Corey Lubowich, Brian Rosenthal, and Joey Richter — known collectively as the Tin Can Bros — are behind The Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye, a work of fiction that will follow a pair of podcast hosts as they uncover the secret of a small town.

The hosts of Wayward Guide‘s podcast will be portrayed by Mary Kate Wiles (The Lizzie Bennet Diaries) and Steve Zaragoza (SourceFed). As they interact with locals in a mining town called Connor Creek, they will discover the area’s sharp-toothed, long-snouted secret: werewolves. Their discoveries will be shared not only in webisodes but also in a podcast that will run adjacent to the series and will provide additional insights.

The Tin Can Bros are known for the sketches they have shared on their YouTube channel, and in their pitch video for Wayward Guide, they assure potential backers that the show will have plenty of humor to go along with its fantastical themes.

Creator Bio: The Tin Can Bros have shared numerous sketch comedy videos on their YouTube channel and have hosted live shows in Chicago and Los Angeles. More information about their work can be found on their website.

Best Perk: The Tin Can Bros want their viewers and listeners to be able to follow along with Wayward Guide‘s central mystery, and backers who contribute at least $25 will get a leg up in their sleuthing efforts. They will receive an “Investigation Starter Kit” that includes “maps, articles, memorabilia, and clues” related to the show.

Why You Should Fund It: Anyone doubting the Tin Can Bros’ ability to combine comedy, mystery, and podcasting should check out a teaser scene from Wayward Guide that has been posted on the trio’s YouTube channel. The writing is fun and subtle, the production is of high quality, and the two leads turn in fine performances. Beyond Wiles and Zaragoza, backers can also expect appearances from other familiar faces, including TV and film stars like Darren Criss and Sean Astin. This is a bold, ambitious project, one that is worthy of coming to life for The Tin Can Bros and their fans.
