Fullscreen And AT&T’s ‘@SummerBreak’ Ups Diversity For Season Five Debut

@SummerBreak, the show streamed, snapped, tweeted, and grammed by a group of SoCal teens, is back for a fifth season on YouTube, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, and more.

Created by The Chernin Group and Fullscreen with sponsor AT&T’s Hello Lab, @SummerBreak’s upcoming season will spotlight a new group of 12 teenagers who either just graduated from high school or are entering their senior year. The first episode will launch on June 25, introducing teens like Natasya Generalova, a gymnast training for the 2020 Olympics, and Isaiah Wood, a high school junior who advocates for LGBTQ rights. They will record their lives on various social media for users to watch, read, and interact with directly throughout the summer. Check out the season five trailer.

As previous seasons featured largely white, straight cast members, it looks like the show’s creators are making an effort to appeal to wider audiences by increasing the racial diversity of the group and focusing more on social action.

“This demographic is ever changing. Their value systems, their aspirations, their political agendas are all rapidly evolving,” said Billy Parks, EVP of Otter Media, parent company of Fullscreen and joint venture of AT&T and The Chernin Group. “We found an engaging and dynamic group who are changing their communities and chasing creative passions in ways that we hope inspire this audience unlike any year before.”

@SummerBreak content will appear across YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Giphy, and Musical.ly. Audiences can engage with the cast on group texting platform, Public.

After season five episodes are released on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the summer, YouTube and Facebook will continue to distribute them. Episodes will also appear on DirecTV Now in the fall.
