Fans Saddened After Christina Grimmie Omitted From Grammys ‘In Memoriam’ Tribute

Fans of Christina Grimmie, the YouTube songstress who was tragically killed at a meet-and-greet last June, were shocked and disappointed yesterday evening when she was not commemorated during the In Memoriam tribute at the 59th Grammy Awards.

Though she was featured in a list on the Recording Academy‘s website featuring artists and other music industry luminaries lost last year, reports Entertainment Weekly, Grimmie’s photo was not showcased during the live telecast, when John Legend and Broadway actress Cynthia Erivo performed a duet of The Beach Boys classic God Only Knows. Others left out of the tribute, per EW, included Carrie Fisher, David Bowie, and The Eagles singer Glenn Frey.

Grimmie was also left out of a similar tribute during last year’s Emmy Awards, which led to a similar outcry. Nevertheless, Grimmie’s official Twitter account shared a message of gratitude

yesterday evening in response to the outpouring of dismay and support from fans. “Thank you #TeamGrimmie for always remembering our superstar!”

And, at the same time, as a consolation of sorts, Grimmie’s team announced that more new music from the singer would be on the way. While Grimmie’s family has continued to post new content to her YouTube channel in the wake of her death, it was announced last night that a posthumous single titled Invisible is set to premiere on Friday. Originally slated to be released tomorrow, on Valentine’s Day, Grimmie’s team confirmed last night that all of her new music would now be released by Universal Music Group, which opted to push the release date back a few days.
