Streaming Service Walter Presents To Bring Acclaimed International Dramas To The US

Niche subscription video on-demand (SVOD) services have become a major trend over the past year, and for American consumers, it is time to another another name to the list of platforms that offer hyper-specific content to viewers. Walter Presents, a UK-based SVOD service that specializes in international drama, has announced its plan to launch in the US.

The Walter in Walter Presents is Walter Iuzzolino, an Italian TV producer who curates his service’s library. To choose the Walter Presents lineup, Iuzzolino reportedly watched 3,500 hours of television, ultimately picking a handful of dramas and comedies from Europe and Latin America to distribute to his subscribers. The select few include Spin, a series described in a press release as the “French House of Cards,” as well as Blue Eyes, which counted more than a million viewers in its native Sweden.

Walter Presents’ expansion into the US is emboldened by the service’s success in its native Britain. Two weeks after its January 2016 launch, its library had reportedly been viewed more than 1.1 million times. Now, it will try to replicate that success in the US, where some SVOD services focused on foreign content have already seen success. In particular, distributors of East Asian content, including DramaFever and Crunchyroll, have accumulated dedicated audiences.

Walter Presents is expected to launch in March. It will cost $6.99 per month.
