President Donald Trump Will Share His Supreme Court Pick Through Facebook Live

Donald Trump, as evidenced by his self-proclaimed love for Twitter, is a fan of social media, and on the tenth day of his Oval Office term, he has found another new way to use the social web as a tool for sharing his presidential policies. He will announce his pick for the Supreme Court through Facebook Live in a broadcast that begins at 8 PM ET on Tuesday, January 31st.

As Variety notes, previous U.S. Presidents announced their Supreme Court picks in daytime press conferences, but Trump is not like previous U.S. Presidents. Always the showman, he has instead opted for a prime time performance on the White House Facebook page. As a cheeky comment on that page notes, Trump’s decision to go for a “big reveal” is reminiscent of the format he used to employ on his reality TV show.

At the same time, Trump’s latest Facebook Live event is more than a callback to his TV days. It also allows him to sidestep the mainstream media he and his staunchest supporters despise so much. Through this format, viewers and journalists will learn who Trump wants to put on the highest court in the land at the same time.

The nascent President has already racked up multiple Facebook Live broadcasts. Since many of constituents seems to love his use of that platform, expect the White House Facebook page to get a workout over the next four years.
