Amy Schumer is the latest in a growing line of illustrious comedians slated to debut stand-up specials on Netflix. Schumer’s as-yet-untitled special, which was taped in November while she was on tour in Colorado, debuts globally on Netflix on March 7.
“Amy Schumer is a boundless threat and a one-of-a-kind talent,” Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited that she’s making Netflix her home for her next stand-up comedy special.” Added Schumer: “Maybe now [Netflix] will look at my Stranger Things audition tape to play the demogorgon for Season 2.”
Schumer’s deal arrives on the heels of the announcement in October that Netflix paid Chris Rock a reported $40 million for two comedy specials slated to premiere on the streaming service. In November, Netflix signed a deal
with Dave Chappelle for one original stand-up special and two existing specials from Chapelle’s personal archives — all three of which are scheduled to premiere this year.Other comedy specials on Netflix include Patton Oswalt’s Emmy-winning Talking For Clapping, as well as specials from prominent comics like Aziz Ansari, Chelsea Handler, YouTube’s own Bo Burnham, and Colin Quinn. Forthcoming specials from Reggie Watts and Gabriel Iglesias are also on tap.
Schumer’s last comedy special, Amy Schumer: Live At The Apollo, aired on HBO and was directed by Chris Rock.
