Mobile Video Game Live Streaming Platform Mobcrush Lands $20 Million Funding Round

A company that can best be described as the “Twitch of mobile gaming” has raised a significant chunk of venture capital. Mobcrush, which lets users live stream video game footage straight from their smartphones and tablets, has announced a $20 million funding round led by Evolution Media Capital.

While Twitch’s most popular games tend to be PC staples like League of Legends and World of Warcraft, Mobcrush’s greatest hits include mobile-only standouts like Clash Royale and Vainglory. The platform’s advantages were made clear during the Pokemon Go mania that swept the U.S. earlier this year. While many streamers found innovative ways to broadcast the creature-catching hit on Twitch, Mobcrush built its own Pokemon Go community by making it easy for players to stream the game to their fans. The platform advertisers the fact that it takes just a single tap to begin broadcasting; as a result, according to Variety, 5% of Mobcrush’s one million users are streamers themselves.

“Mobile phones and tablets are increasingly becoming consumers’ primary source of entertainment,” said Salim Mitha, a partner at Evolution Media Capital. “By focusing on seamless entertainment delivery from mobile devices, Mobcrush has anticipated this trend and is poised to change the way gamers consume and share content.”
