YouTube Kids Teams With Roald Dahl’s Estate To Commemorate His 100-Year Legacy

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of famed author Roald Dahl’s birth, YouTube Kids has teamed up with Dahl’s grandson, Ned Donovan, to curate a special playlist featuring videos that complement his revolutionary body of work — including James And The Giant Peach, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, and Matilda.

The playlist, fittingly titled Celebrating 100 Years Of Roald Dahl On YouTube Kids, is now live and features everything from step-by-step arts and crafts with TV presenter Claudia Winkleman to The BFG story time with comedian David Walliams to drawing tutorials with cartoonist Quentin Blake to a reading of Matilda by the actress Kate Winslet.

“It’s really exciting to see how, 100 years after his birth, my grandfather’s work continues to captivate and inspire millions of children around the planet,” Donovan said in a statement. “Roald once said that ‘those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.’ I hope the YouTube Kids playlist…can guide a new generation to the gloriumptious magic of the world’s number one storyteller.”

The Dahl playlist is part of an educational content initiative being spearheaded by YouTube Kids this month titled #TodayILearned in which creators and media companies are coming together to share videos about science, sports, singing, and other topics — all with an informative bent. YouTube Kids has also dedicated past months to specific themes, such as to promote childhood literacy with Reading Month in June, followed by Sports Month in August to celebrate the Olympics.

YouTube Kids has also tapped several bold-faced guest curators to compile special playlists for the platform, including Ellen DeGeneres, National Geographic Kids, Kid President, and the actress Geena Davis.
